You can’t always choose when you are at your best. Sometimes it is sprung upon you. Other times it comes when you are feeling at your worst.
One of the times that I was at my best came when I was just coming off of feeling very low. Last week I was feeling very stressed. Homesickness was really starting to set in and I had my first big test of the semester coming up. It was the perfect storm for feeling horrible but then last Wednesday something changed.
I was just checking my mail when one of the girls in my building asked me to teach her how to open her mailbox. Despite my own ill feelings I helped her out and it turned out to be an instance of me feeling at my best. I not only helped her but it also helped me to break out of my funk.
So you can’t always choose when you are at your best. It is often just thrust upon you. However, I find that I am frequently at my best when I get the chance to help someone else.

I think everyone has those moments when they feel down and in the dumps. And it is a good feeling when someone needs you and it picks you back up and your not so down anymore.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to hear that by helping someone else it can help you as well. I know I was homesick for awhile, but my friends are what pulled me up.
ReplyDeleteI believe that too. Sometimes the only way you can feel good is when you make someone else feel good first.
ReplyDeleteI was doing a dance in my junior year recital (the summer before my senior year) when I tore my ACL and medial meniscus. I really sucked because it prevented me from dancing on my dance team my entire senior year and I had to go through loads of physical therapy. Dancing was like my life so it was a real dancer not to be in any of my classes which included ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, and hip hop.
Trying to prepare for being at your best is not always possible, that is so true, something as simple as that, but so effective. Very good!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that you feel at your best win you are helping somebody. It will only help you in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice how much it can turn your day around just by helping someone out, no matter how big the problem is. That really says a lot about you and how great of a person you are.
ReplyDeleteGreat story, you know someone is a good person when they take time out of their stressful day to help someone out. I'll keep this in mind the next time i'm having a stressful day (which is pretty much all the time actually)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how sometimes you just need a little pick-me-up to make your day/week! That's really cool how you enjoy helping people so much!
ReplyDeleteAll the small things are very important. They are what can make or break a person's day or even more. Helping others is a great way to meet people and make friends.
ReplyDeletei really like it how u think ur at ur best when ur helping someone else thats a really great thing.
ReplyDeleteI like these types of stories because I am sure they happen to many people but many times you may not think about in this way. Make it a goal to make someones day everyday.
ReplyDeleteIt's really great to think that something so small like this can impact your attitude so completely. I agree with Shane. It's not very often that you consider the little things that make your day. Neat choice!
ReplyDeleteIt's those little times, when you know you helped someone out that can really make your day. I always say, "It's the little things that make me happy." and that's truly the case for me. I try to make someone's day every day I just do small things that make someone's day easier or happier. Great job!
ReplyDeleteIts hard to be here without family. It makes you feel alone. Even having friends doesn't compare to have the ones that have known you since your diaper days.
